The Orange Whip is an interesting device. It is billed as a swing trainer and fitness tool and I think it can definitely be used for both. It is simple; basically a weighted ball on the end of a moderately flexible shaft. It also has a small counter balance on the grip end, making the overall weight of the device heavier than a standard golf club.

Conclusion: I thought this product was a birdie. Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have actually bought one of these to experiment with and use as a swing aid during lessons. Although the total weight of the device is heavier than a normal club, the weight is distributed to give a balanced "feel". The heavier weight provides for a bit of a workout when swung repetitively and, combined with the flexible shaft, the weight promotes swinging the club with better rhythm, timing and balance. Unless you are unusually tall, I felt the "golden" unit was a good all around size and weight for most everyone. If you are particularly weak in the hands and arms then the "hickory" junior unit would be appropriate.

Based on its potential usefulness, I felt the cost of the device was moderate ($100 - 110.00). However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention a couple cautions.

First, don't just whip this thing out and start swinging away or you will likely hurt yourself. The extra weight, although distributed to have a proper "feel" is definitely heavy. Start slowly, with short swings and gradually work you way into larger, stronger swings.

Second, I would recommend you check with your regular swing instructor to make sure your using it in a fashion that will enhance your swing. It's pretty easy to buy one of these and start slashing it around in the wrong way and end up enhancing your flaws instead of correcting them. A quick 10 - 20 minute check up to make sure you are using it properly and to your best advantage is money well spent. This applies to any type of swing aid.
